First walks in Henderson.
Henderson asks for a leash in public - with fenced dog parks across the city for later. The city’s own rules, the official list, and how we suggest starting a new dog’s first week.
The rules, in short
From the City of Henderson’s official pages.
- 1Keep the leash on for everyday walks - streets, parks, public grounds
- 2Off-leash play belongs inside the fenced dog parks
- 3Leash on the way in and out
- 4Clean up after your dog
- 5City license for dogs over three months - keep rabies vaccination current
- 6No more than three dogs per person
Hours, exceptions & the fine print
Hours vary by dog park - check the posted sign at the gate before you go. Children under 5 stay out of the fenced off-leash area.
The first week
The same calm start we suggest everywhere - on Henderson’s streets.
- 1Leash, quiet streets, short and sniffy - calm hours, near home, ending before your dog is wound up. An off-leash area is not day-one material for a brand-new dog.
- 2Sniffing is the point - let your dog pause and sniff instead of focusing on distance. More on the sniff walk.
- 3Settle first, explore later - more on the first days: a routine for a newly adopted dog and a calm start to every walk.
The dog park list, for later
