Short answer: work out how your dog escapes, and why. Then fix the weak spot and give your dog something better to do outside.
The AKC says dogs escape in different ways: some jump, some climb using whatever is near the fence, some dig, and some learn to open gates. Dogs may be after something on the other side, such as a friend, food or a field to run in. The AKC suggests adding a section at the top of the fence that tilts inward, and says walks can help use up energy and reduce boredom.
VCA says some Northern breeds, such as Huskies and Malamutes, dig cooling holes and lie in them. It says to find the reason for digging first, and that more play, training and exercise may be needed. It also asks whether a dog who is outside all day would be better kept indoors for part of the day.
