When should I spay or neuter my dog?

The best age can depend on breed and size. This is a decision to make with your vet.
2 min read·Field notes

Short answer: there is no single right age for every dog. Ask your vet, because breed, size and health matter.

What the AKC says

The AKC says spay and neuter surgery often happens at four to six months, but that studies have shown this may not be the best age. It says research at UC Davis found that for some breeds, spaying and neutering may be linked to increased risks of certain conditions, such as joint disorders and some cancers.
