What should I ask a boarding kennel or sitter?

Ask about space, exercise, supervision and licensing, and visit before you book.
2 min read·Field notes

Short answer: ask how the dogs are housed, exercised and supervised, and visit before you book.

What VCA says

VCA says boarding facilities do not have an official star rating, so ask questions. It says there is a lot of variation in rooms, kennels, crates and runs. Ask how often dogs are taken out for playtime and exercise.

What the RSPCA says

The RSPCA says that since October 2018, licensed businesses in England involving animals, including boarding kennels and home boarding, are covered by regulations. It lists what each dog should have, including their own kennel unit, unless you have agreed that dogs from the same household share, and enough space to sit, stand, lie down, stretch out, wag their tail, walk and turn around.
